Although a steady decline on the global burden of malaria was registered between 2000 and 2015, and despite being preventable and treatable, malaria continues to have devastating consequences on health and economies in countries around the world. In the year 2020, the world registered 241 million new malaria cases and 627,000 deaths. The decline in death caused by malaria has stalled over the past two years and our vigilance is on high alert.
